Missoula, MT, September 19 - Alpine Physical Therapy is hosting a Free Baseline Concussion Testing event on September 19th, 2 - 5 pm at the Playfair Park pavilion, behind Splash Montana. Therapist and UMPT students will be conducting free baseline screenings for Missoula youth athletes (5 - 18 years old) and ultimately providing parents with documentation that can then be added to the athletes medical records giving their primary care provider a more comprehensive picture when a concussion is suspected. Leading to a safer and more efficient return-to-playprocess.
What is a baseline test? - Baseline testing is a pre-season exam conducted by a trained health care professional. Baseline tests are used to assess an athlete’s balance and brain function (including learning and memory skills, ability to pay attention or concentrate, and how quickly he or she thinks and solve problems), as well as for the presence of any concussion symptoms. Results from baseline testing are used if an athlete has a suspected concussion during season. Comparing post-injury test results to baseline test results can assist health care professionals in identifying the effects of the injury and making more informed return to school and play decisions.
